Fran Pavley Meadow

Local conservation hero Fran Pavley was a beloved schoolteacher for 28 years who became the first mayor of Agoura Hills, and then a member of the California State Senate and Assembly. Her commitment and passion for the environment inspired an international movement to help reduce climate change.

Chesebro Road Trailhead 34°08'54.2"N 118°44'12.7"W - 1 mi RT

    • Start on the 101 towards Agoura Hills

    • Take Exit 35 at Chesebro Road/Palo Comado Road; head North/Inland

    • Drive 0.5 miles to trailhead at Fran Pavley Meadows

    • Trailhead is directly across the street from the big red barn

    • Limited street parking right at the trailhead on either side of the street

    • If full, then drive 0.25 miles up the street on the right and park at Old Agoura Park; there is a bathroom here

    • Cellphone coverage is good, Wi-Fi is adequate

    • Enter at the opening in the fence across from the red barn into the Fran Pavley Meadow

    • Turn left

    • Walk to the large fallen oak tree, with new trees coming up around it 

    • Turn right at the T in the path adjacent to the fallen tree

    • Walk through the meadow with a large hill on the left

      • About ½ way there is a trail marker  

      • About ¾ of the way, the trail peters out 

    • In front are a trio of small hills 

    • Aim for the one in the middle; keep going through the meadow

    • The trail picks back up; it heads to the right to the top of the hill where the Gratitude Bench sits; the 101 Freeway is a backdrop to the bench with the meadow stretched out in front

    • Skill level 2; easy to moderate

    • Slope is at a 900 foot increase over a 1.1 mile round trip 

    • Narrow hiking path with uneven terrain, gives out for about 500 yards through meadow

    • Bring water, a hat, sunscreen, extra jacket, closed toe shoes and printed map

    • No shade

    • No wheelchair accessibility
